Jim Martinez

Jim Martinez has been creating water wise and environmentally friendly landscapes for over 30 years. He specializes in native plants of Texas and the Southwest and has designed and installed gardens throughout the U.S. and Mexico. A recent garden design and installation was issued one of the first LEED Platinum certifications in Dallas, Texas.  Jim has a Bachelor of Science, Soil Science, New Mexico State University. Jim’s landscape designs have been recognized by national publications including Garden Design Magazine, Pure Green Living, Wildflower, The Magazine of The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the Dallas Morning News among others.

Jim’s understanding of the immense diversity of native plant species and their habitats provides him with a large palette of living materials that can be celebrated in all the landscapes he designs.

For Agave Festival Marfa 2016, Jim will be speaking about the agave at 1:30 pm at the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute on Sunday, June 4th. After giving a botanical introduction to the plant, Jim will co-lead a short hike of the grounds in the company of a CDRI garden volunteer.
